Can I have more than one web site hosted on a single server?
Yes you can, the amount you can have is nearly unlimited.
So what sort of Internet connection is required?
It all depends on the amount of traffic (number of people viewing you site) you receive. At a absolute minimum you will require a 256/64 speed broadband Internet connection however we strongly recommend at least a 512/128 speed connection. If however you are estimating that your traffic will be quite large then a much faster link would be required, possibly with the server being located outside your premises.
Also you should check with your Internet Service Provider if running servers is allowed on your network.
VG Computing will assist you in identifying and installing your Internet connection if required.
Do I need a static IP address?
It is not strictly necessary but it is highly recommended.
My ISP blocks the standard http port (port 80). Can I still run a web site?
It is still possible to run a web servers on your computer using redirection techniques. We will advise you on what is required to accomplish this. However it is highly recommended you find a suitable ISP which allows a web server.
Do you create web pages for me?
No, we only provide the server which hosts these pages on the Internet. It is up to you to create the web pages that are to be viewed. VG Computing can recommend certain tools if you wish to create the pages yourself.
Can I change my web site even after it is being hosted on my server?
Yes, you may make as many changes as you wish as often as you like.
Which web server software do you use?
We use Apache for Linux servers and IIS or Apache for Windows servers.
